INTRODUCTION

BASE OF THE STUDY CONTEXT

Gene Mosher's ViewTouch touch-screen GUI and Martin Goodwin and Bob Henry's first Windows-based POS system were the first POS systems to emerge in the late 1980s and early 1990s (IT Retail).

These days, retailers have the option of using a counter-top system or one that allows them to manage every part of their POS operations from an internet interface. When they're on the go, they may connect to their POS systems through their smartphones. It is a technology that enables you to sell real things at a grocery shop. A supermarket's point of sale (POS) is where customers check out, place orders, and pay their bills. As the name implies, a POS System consists of both hardware and software components that are utilized in POS stores to process payments. When a retail business uses this method, it often includes the following hardware components: displays for providing information like the order number and product weight; scanners; receipt printers; and registers. Today's point-of-sale systems need card readers as a standard feature.

The "internet" has become the central hub for everything. Retailers also had to enhance their point-of-sale systems as a result of this. For POS systems, it's no longer enough to only promote cash, credit, debit or gift card transactions because of the increasing number of customers using their smartphones to pay for things and use retail membership discounts and coupons. In today's POS apps, more than merely processing transactions is expected. Businesses like Clover have responded to this need by developing extremely effective and technologically advanced points of sale (POS) systems that can track employee behavior and inventory, send out invoices, provide real-time reports, and operate even when the internet is down, all in an effort to help retailers run their businesses more efficiently.

EXPLANATION OF THE ISSUE

The word "unemployment" seems to have a common meaning and use. Udu and Agu (2005) define unemployment as the inability of persons who are capable and eager to work to find a job that pays them what they're worth. Taking jobs that are incompatible with or inferior to one's educational background or area of competence may also result in joblessness. First and second-degree holders who join the military or paramilitary, for example, are underused and might be classified as jobless even if they are employed, despite the fact that they have a job. This country's high unemployment rate has serious repercussions. The extent of the unemployment rate's actuality is indisputable, even if an exact figure cannot be determined. According to research, the high percentage of unemployment in Nigeria may be traced to a variety of causes, including corruption, poor governance, a lack of infrastructure, a lack of human capital development, a weak educational system, a disregard for agriculture, and even the effects of globalization. Running a POS firm is a lawful means of generating revenue in Nigeria. Deposits and ATMs aren't enough to fulfill the community's financial demands, thus it is more profitable in such locations. Financial institutions are expanding their facilities to enable for rapid service to a broad range of customers, which is known as "agent banking." There are POS (Point of Sale) firms that provide a wide range of services including money transfers, bill payments for GOTV, Dstv and Startimes as well as for other utility bills such as PHCN. Department shops, malls, petrol stations, hospitals and restaurants are all examples of places where items and services are sold or created. In doing so, this POS firm has decreased unemployment and provided people and businesses with extra sources of revenue..

Has the POS industry reduced the number of unemployed people?

The study's significance is estimated as 1.5.

Other academics, thinkers, and students who may desire to do similar research would benefit much from this study.

1.6 AIM OF THE EXAMINATION

The study was conducted in Lokoja, Kogi state, and focuses on the impact of POS businesses on unemployment in Nigeria.

1.7 RESTRICTIONS ON THE STUDY

Due to a shortage of materials and time constraints, the researcher encountered several difficulties in conducting the study.

Terms and expressions are defined in this section (1.8).

Point-of-sale (POS) terminals enable retailers to take credit cards at the point of sale (point of sale). Software for reading magnetic strips from credit and debit cards is included in the device.

UNEMPLOYMENT: When someone is unemployed, it means that they are able to work but are unable to do so. Many people in the workforce are in this situation because they have jobs, but they are not in the correct ones.

Business is defined as an organization or person that engages in economic, industrial or technological operations. Non-profit organizations and for-profit companies both strive to advance a certain cause.
